Two Thousand Ten is going to be the best year ever! And here’s why….. Can you fill in the blank? Can you mean it? It’s easy to be negative given the tough economy – particularly for the construction trades, high levels of unemployment and political climate. I’m generally an optimist. We create much of our own reality. Volatile times create opportunities as well as challenges. It’s up to us to find and take advantage of them. Less work means there’s more competition and a need to set your self apart, but when everyone’s gloomy it’s easy. You can start by being the one with a positive attitude who’s still looking to move forward. Are you certified? CSI offers exams that help you show off your expertise in construction documents. The next exam window is March 29-April 3, 2010 and early registration closes on January 29th. The Chapter is holding a CDT study/review course in February and March. Details can be found in this edition of the newsletter. Are you published? We’d like to enhance the value of this newsletter for our readers by providing more content related to local construction issues, projects and technology. Submit an article in your area of expertise. You can help educate our readers while gaining recognition of your talents. Are you networking? There’s e-mail and online sites, but personal contact is the best way to learn about new opportunities. Pick up the phone and get back in touch with folks you haven’t worked with in a while. Get out to a chapter meeting and let folks see your face. (The next one is on January 19th.) A quote from Henry Ford - "Whether you think you can or whether you think you can't, you're right." In the worst year ever for the auto industry, his company increased its profitability, gained market share, and saw its market value increase by 800%. Maybe because they didn’t seek a government handout. Maybe because their CEO came from another industry with a new outlook. Maybe because they just believed they could do better. Hope to see you on the 19th – and Happy New Year and a prosperous 2010 to all. Marty
